The Open Championship and AIG Women’s Open held at Royal Birkdale

The Open Championship and the AIG Women’s Open recently concluded at Royal Birkdale and Royal Lytham & St Annes. The back-to-back major championships required intensive course maintenance to ensure tournament-ready conditions.

At Royal Birkdale, course management involved expanding the regular crew to approximately 45 staff and volunteers to accommodate early tee times. Maintenance efforts utilized specialized machinery, including John Deere 8000AE fairway mowers and 2775 E-Cut electric triple riding mowers, which were noted for their quiet operation and high-quality finish.

The 154th edition of The Open at Royal Birkdale features updated course layouts and dry conditions, resulting in firmer, faster fairways and greens. Scottie Scheffler enters the event as the defending champion following his 2025 victory at Royal Portrush.
