The Queen’s Health Systems announces medical expansions and cancer treatment breakthroughs
The Queen’s Health Systems has reached a significant milestone in the expansion of The Queen’s Medical Center – West Oʻahu. A topping-off ceremony was held for a new three-story, 80,000-square-foot facility in ʻEwa, marking the placement of the final structural beam. The project aims to address growing demand in Central and West Oʻahu by more than doubling the current emergency department size, increasing care spaces from 23 to 55. The expansion also includes two floors of inpatient care with 48 private rooms, bringing the total patient room count to 152.
Additionally, The Queen’s Medical Center has been recognized for advancing pancreatic cancer treatment in Hawaiʻi. The hospital was the first in the state to offer daraxonrasib, a drug that targets KRAS gene mutations. The drug, which recently received FDA approval, has been shown to shrink tumors and can potentially double survival times for patients with KRAS-driven pancreatic cancers while offering fewer side effects than traditional chemotherapy.
