The Rookie expands with new cast members and a spin-off

At New York Comic Con, creator Alexi Hawley announced major developments for the police procedural series ‘The Rookie’. For season 9, the show will introduce Troian Bellisario as Stephanie ‘Stevie’ Monroe, a single mother and new LAPD recruit trained by John Nolan. Additionally, Dulé Hill will join the cast as Lieutenant Hughes, a 30-year veteran and new brigade chief.

Hawley also officially confirmed a spin-off titled ‘The Rookie: North’, which will focus on character Alex Holland, played by Jay Ellis. In the United States, season 9 is scheduled to premiere on ABC on January 6, 2027, with 13 episodes.

While the franchise expands, recent broadcasts of season 8 on the French channel M6 have faced viewership challenges. Recent episodes, including ‘A Particular Day’ and ‘Zombie Attacks’, saw market shares of approximately 3% and 2.7% respectively, trailing behind competing programming on networks such as TF1 and France 3.
