The Royal Canadian Legion begins 50th Dominion Convention in Winnipeg

The Royal Canadian Legion has commenced its 50th Dominion Convention in Winnipeg. The biennial event brought together approximately 1,000 delegates and guests from across Canada and abroad to address veteran issues and the organization’s strategic direction.

The convention opening included a parade from the Manitoba Legislature to the Winnipeg cenotaph for a Remembrance ceremony, following a 100th-anniversary banquet. During the four-day event, representatives will vote on operational matters and elect a new Dominion President and senior officers.

Outgoing Dominion President Berkley Lawrence noted that the organization has seen over 100,000 new members join during its anniversary year. The event featured remarks from several officials, including Manitoba Lieutenant Governor Anita R. Neville, Special Envoy for Military Affairs David Pankratz, Winnipeg Deputy Mayor Markus Chambers, and Canada’s Minister of Veterans Affairs Jill McKnight.
