The Royal Mint launches Wicked 20th anniversary coins

The Royal Mint has launched a collection of commemorative coins to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the musical Wicked in London’s West End. The release marks two decades since the production opened at the Apollo Victoria Theatre in September 2006.

Since its debut, the musical has been performed more than 7,500 times in London, reaching an audience of nearly 14 million people. The coin designs incorporate iconic elements from the show, including Elphaba’s hat and broomstick, Glinda’s wand and shoes, the Grimmerie spellbook, a flying monkey, and the Wizard of Oz in a hot air balloon.

The collection features various editions with prices starting at £19.50, including some color designs utilizing the show’s signature green and pink palette. A gold edition has been produced using recycled gold, as part of The Royal Mint’s goal to use recycled gold for all collectible gold coins by the end of 2026. Each coin comes in packaging inspired by the London stage production.
