Kelan and Brittany Kline, high-school sweethearts from Rochester, New York, have built a seven-figure online business, The Savvy Couple, to achieve financial independence and lifestyle flexibility.

Before launching their venture in 2016, the couple faced significant financial pressure, including approximately $40,000 in student loan debt. Their previous careers as an elementary school teacher and a jail deputy left them with little control over their schedules and minimal time together due to overlapping shifts.

Inspired by existing personal finance blogs, they launched their site with minimal startup costs, beginning with a $2.95 monthly web-hosting plan. After an initial nine-month period without revenue, the business began to scale, eventually leading to a net worth exceeding $1 million by age 30.
