Disney+ debuts Ryan Murphy's thriller series 'The Shards' on August 6, 2026

Disney+ will launch the new thriller series "The Shards" on 6 August 2026. The show, co‑created by Ryan Murphy and based on Bret Easton Ellis’s 2023 novel, follows teenage Bret (Igby Rigney) in 1981 Los Angeles as he navigates a privileged school environment and a string of murders attributed to a serial killer known as “The Trawler”. The cast includes Homer Gere as newcomer Robert Mallory, Kaia Gerber, Hayes Warner, Wes Bentley and Evan Rachel Wood among others.

The release arrives amid a surge of literary adaptations slated for 2026, with streaming services and studios announcing dozens of series and films based on recent bestsellers and classics, ranging from the Netflix thriller "His & Hers – La sua verità" to the romantic comedy film "People We Meet on Vacation".
