The Simpsons movie sequel announced for 2027 release

During the D23 Expo, Disney and 20th Century Studios announced the upcoming sequel to the 2007 film, titled ‘The Simpsons Movie: The New Movie’. The film is scheduled for a theatrical release in September 2027, marking the 20th anniversary of the original movie. A trailer released during the presentation features Homer Simpson in a chaotic sequence involving a baseball game, a helicopter, and various Springfield locations.

Additionally, showrunner Matt Selman introduced a new two-part anthology episode titled ‘Yellow Mirror’. Described as having a tone similar to ‘Black Mirror’, the episode explores the family's relationship with technology. The first segment, ‘As We Were Not’, utilizes a parallel universe concept where a young Homer believes his adult life with Marge is a hallucination, leading him to become a creator of a bitter animated sitcom.
