The Sinking City 2 explores new directions in survival horror

Frogwares has released The Sinking City 2, a third-person survival horror game set in the 1920s in the flooded city of Arkham. Drawing inspiration from H.P. Lovecraft’s works, the sequel marks a significant departure from its predecessor by abandoning the open-world structure in favor of a more dense, area-based progression system.

This shift emphasizes exploration and resource management, reminiscent of classic titles like Resident Evil. Players navigate the submerged streets using small boats and must find keys or operate mechanisms to unlock new paths. The game focuses on the density of discovery within individual rooms rather than vast scale.

A unique investigation system allows players to pursue optional cases to gain upgrades, such as expanded inventory or enhanced abilities, without strictly requiring them to progress the main story. The game also retains the Mind Palace mechanic, where players organize clues and documents to solve puzzles and uncover truths.
