Smile of the Child reports prior alerts in Kypseli case

The organization Smile of the Child has released a statement regarding the ongoing investigation into the death of an infant in Kypseli, noting that it had received two anonymous reports concerning the family in question.

The first report was received in April 2020 via the SOS 1056 National Helpline. It alleged neglect of hygiene, economic exploitation of a daughter, substance abuse by parents, and lack of supervision for three children (one girl and two boys). This report was forwarded to the competent Prosecutor's Office, though the organization stated it received no follow-up information regarding the progress of the case.

A second anonymous call was recorded in December 2024, also involving three children. This report included allegations of potential substance use, physical violence, and abuse of the daughter by the father. However, because the caller provided insufficient identifying details such as names or specific locations, the organization did not forward this report to the authorities.

Smile of the Child noted that the details currently emerging in the Kypseli case—including the children's ages, genders, and family circumstances involving a Greek father and a foreign mother—align with the previous reports, though they cannot definitively confirm the reports concerned this specific family due to the lack of identifying data.
