The Tallest Man on Earth and The Bones of J. R. Jones release new albums
Musicians Kristian Matsson, performing as The Tallest Man on Earth, and Jonathon Linaberry, known as The Bones of J. R. Jones, have both released new albums that reflect a theme of isolation and a return to musical essentials.
Matsson’s eighth album, ‘Just Beyond Endless Mountain’, features a stripped-back sound reminiscent of his early compositions. The album's visual aesthetic, captured by photographer Anton Corbijn, draws comparisons to the work done with Tom Waits. Matsson has noted his musical debt to Waits, and the album's melancholic tones align with that influence.
Linaberry’s new album, ‘Radio Waves’, marks a stylistic shift for The Bones of J. R. Jones. While maintaining roots in rural blues, folk, and Americana, the project incorporates 1980s-inspired elements such as drum machines and synthesizers, drawing comparisons to Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Tunnel of Love’. This release, produced with the help of Robbie Lackritz, represents a departure from Linaberry’s previous isolated creative process in an effort to reach a broader audience.
