The Toumba Alana area faces potential changes due to PAOK stadium plans

Residents and local associations in Thessaloniki are expressing concern regarding the future of the Toumba Alana, a significant green space serving approximately 200,000 people in the Upper and Lower Toumba areas. The controversy stems from discussions surrounding the construction of a new PAOK stadium and potential interventions that could impact the public space and surrounding communal areas.

Following a meeting on October 19, 2026, between representatives of PAOK, Ivan Savvidis, and officials from the Municipality of Thessaloniki, the issue is expected to be brought before the Municipal Council. Local community members are demanding clarity regarding which areas might change usage, the legal and economic status of the land, and how green spaces and public access will be protected.
