The Trade Desk announces 15% global workforce reduction

Digital advertising firm The Trade Desk has announced a global workforce reduction of approximately 15 percent as part of a strategic restructuring. CEO Jeff Green stated the move aims to transition the company toward more agile operational teams and focused operational pods. The realignment is expected to be substantially completed during the third quarter of 2026, with estimated restructuring charges between USD 39 million and USD 51 million.

Coinciding with the workforce reduction on September 4, 2026, The Trade Desk was also removed from the S&P 500 stock index. The company will move to the S&P SmallCap 600. S&P Dow Jones Indices announced that the genomics company Illumina will take the vacated seat in the S&P 500. While the timing of the layoffs and the index removal is identical, the company and index providers have indicated the two events are not causally linked.
