Fran Drescher joins cast of German ARD series Die Zweiflers

American actress Fran Drescher, widely recognized for her role in the sitcom ‘The Nanny’, has joined the cast of the award-winning ARD series ‘Die Zweiflers’ for its second season. Drescher will play a central character named Melissa.

The new season, consisting of six 45-minute episodes, is scheduled to premiere in the ARD Mediathek on January 15, 2027. The series follows a Jewish family in Frankfurt, and creator David Hadda noted that Drescher’s background as a Jewish icon from New York makes her an ideal fit for the show’s international scope.

Returning cast members include Sunnyi Melles and Mark Ivanir as Mimi and Jackie Zweifler, alongside Aaron Altaras and Saffron Marni Coomber. The second season will explore themes of missed love and new beginnings, while addressing plotlines involving an unsolved crime from the 1950s and the family business facing insolvency.
