The Vampire Lestat TV series sparks musical vampire revival and Tony wins
On 7 June 2026 the third season of AMC’s adaptation of Anne Rice’s novels premiered under the new title The Vampire Lestat, airing on AMC in the United States and BBC Two in the United Kingdom. The season reimagines the French noble vampire Lestat as a rock‑star and adds original songs and extended musical numbers, earning a 100 % Rotten Tomatoes rating.
The same day a stage version of The Lost Boys, a musical based on the vampire franchise, opened on Broadway and received four Tony Awards, quickly becoming one of the theatre’s hottest tickets. The revival contrasts with earlier Broadway vampire‑themed productions—Dance of the Vampires, Dracula and Lestat—that opened between 2002 and 2005 and were commercial failures.
In the TV adaptation, creator Rolin Jones altered the character Louis, turning him from a white slave‑owner into a Black brothel‑owner and depicting him as Lestat’s lover, making the queer subtext explicit while largely preserving Rice’s original story.
