The Violinist animated film set for Singapore release in September

The award-winning animated feature ‘The Violinist’ is scheduled for its Singapore homecoming this September. Following a successful international festival run, the film will hold a gala premiere at the Capitol Theatre on 3 September, before its nationwide release at Golden Village cinemas on 17 September 2026.

Directed by Ervin Han and Raúl García, the Singapore-Spain-Italy co-production made history at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival by becoming the first Singapore-led animated feature to win the Cristal for a Feature Film. It also received the SACEM Award for Best Original Soundtrack. The film has been selected for the Centrepiece programme at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

Set in Singapore and Malaya during the early 20th century and the Japanese Occupation, the story follows two childhood friends whose lives are shaped by war and separation, with music serving as a central connecting element.
