The Walking Dead: Dead City faces uncertain future after season 3
Following the conclusion of the third season of The Walking Dead: Dead City, the future of the spin-off remains uncertain as AMC has not yet officially renewed or canceled the series. While the network has not announced a fourth season, actress Lauren Cohan has indicated that the creative team possesses “much ideas that go off the beaten path for another season.”
The third season has seen significant character development for Maggie Rhee. Lauren Cohan noted that the character is transitioning from a state of being trapped by grief and rage toward a willingness to heal and live. This evolution includes a complex, evolving relationship with Negan, which Cohan describes as a form of “family” built on mutual trust despite their shared history.
Although the series' renewal depends on viewership, streaming metrics, and production costs, the third season has seen a critical improvement, holding a 100% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes compared to 56% for the second season.
