The Walking Dead faces narrative gap after CRM defeat

The Walking Dead franchise faces a narrative challenge following the dismantling of the Civic Republic Military (CRM), which served as a primary candidate for a major crossover villain. The CRM was characterized as a massive, organized government-like force with national reach, helicopters, and a ruthless, fascist-leaning structure capable of threatening entire communities.

In the series The Ones Who Live, Rick and Michonne successfully neutralized the most malevolent branch of the CRM and killed Major General Beale. This development has left the franchise's various characters geographically and narratively splintered: Rick and Michonne are reunited with their family, Carol and Daryl are in Europe, and Maggie and Negan are located in New York. Without a centralized, large-scale threat like the CRM, the franchise currently lacks a compelling catalyst to bring these disparate groups of historical characters together for a unified storyline.
