The Wall Street Journal has permitted the use of artificial intelligence in its opinion section without requiring formal disclosures. This decision follows the publication of an op-ed by billionaire Stanley Druckenmiller, who confirmed he used AI to help formulate his arguments. Druckenmiller compared the use of AI to using a calculator for mathematics, stating that because the piece reflects his genuine message, the method of writing is not relevant.

Paul Gigot, the editorial page editor for The Wall Street Journal, defended the practice, describing AI as a “fact of modern life.” He noted that because the essay articulated the author's intended opinion, the newspaper saw no need for a disclaimer. This development marks a potential inflection point for the media industry regarding how AI-assisted content is integrated into professional journalism.
