The Walt Disney Company launches AI‑focused 2026 Accelerator and patents automated assistive‑device vending system

The Walt Disney Company announced the 2026 class of its Accelerator program, selecting five AI‑focused startups—FieldAI, Physical Intelligence, Promise, OpenArt and Simile—to work with Disney over the next four months on projects ranging from robotics that can operate safely in unfamiliar environments to generative‑AI tools that support human artists in film production.

In a separate filing, Disney disclosed a patent for an automated vending system that would dispense assistive devices such as headphones, strollers, wheelchairs or powered scooters to guests who are authenticated and entitled to receive them. The system would manage inventory, rentals and returns, aiming to improve efficiency for the millions of visitors with special‑needs requirements who visit Disney parks each year.
