The Whale museum to open in Norway in 2027
Construction is underway for ‘The Whale’, a new cultural and scientific center dedicated to whales, located in Andenes on the Norwegian island of Andøya. Designed by Danish architect Dorte Mandrup, the structure features a sweeping concrete roof that rises from the rocky terrain, intended to evoke the silhouette of a whale emerging from the sea. The roof will serve as an accessible public viewpoint overlooking the Norwegian Sea.
Scheduled to open in June 2027, the center aims to serve as an international hub for knowledge, combining science, art, and storytelling. It will explore whale communication, migration, and their ecological roles through audiovisual installations and natural exhibits. The location was chosen for its proximity to the Bleik Canyon, an area where sperm whales and other species can be observed year-round. Tickets are expected to go on sale in the autumn of 2026.
