The Who returns to rehearsals with drummer Zak Starkey

Rock band The Who has reportedly returned to rehearsals with long-time drummer Zak Starkey. The news came from vocalist Roger Daltrey during a solo performance at the Encore Theatre in Las Vegas, where he noted that the rehearsals “sounded great.”

Starkey, who drummed for the group from 1996 until the start of their farewell tour in 2025, confirmed the activity via social media, describing the session as a “great” and intense rehearsal. This development follows the completion of the band’s farewell tour, titled “The Song is Over,” last October.

While the band's future plans remain unconfirmed, Daltrey previously expressed interest in a less grueling lifestyle following the conclusion of the group's final U.S. tour. Additionally, Daltrey dismissed the possibility of the band performing at the Sphere in Las Vegas, stating a preference for traditional stage energy.
