The Wiz musical to perform in Wilmington this October

The musical “The Wiz” is scheduled to perform at The Playhouse on Rodney Square in Wilmington, Delaware, from October 23 through October 25. This production is part of a new national tour that reimagines L. Frank Baum’s “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” through the lens of Black culture, utilizing a musical score that blends soul, gospel, rock, and 1970s funk.

The cast features several alumni from reality singing competitions, including “American Idol” finalist Gabby Samone as Dorothy and “The Voice” winner Asher HaVon as the Lion. Other notable performers include Bryan DeMond as The Wiz, Toni Lorene Baker as Glinda, and Jose E. Figueroa Jr. as the Scarecrow.

Directed by Schele Williams and choreographed by JaQuel Knight, the production continues the legacy of the original 1975 Broadway musical, which won seven Tony Awards. Tickets for the four scheduled performances are currently available.
