Theater festivals launch in Santa Fe and Vegas Bajas

The 31st edition of the International Humor Theater Festival in Santa Fe, Spain, has commenced with a sold-out performance by the Madrid-based company Ron Lalá. Their production, ‘La Desconquista’, uses music, verse, and wordplay to parody the ambitions of the Spanish Empire through the lens of 16th-century explorers.

Simultaneously, the 45th edition of the Vegas Bajas National Theater Festival has launched with strong public attendance. The opening weekend featured ‘El Verdugo’ by the Malaga-based company El Espejo Negro, a puppet performance blending dark humor with technical mastery. This was followed by ‘Noche’ by Micomicón Teatro, a production exploring domestic violence set in the late 19th century, and ‘La hoguera de las maravillas’ by Producciones Viridiana.
