Theater production ‘Desierto’ reconstructs José Vergara disappearance case
The theatrical production ‘Desierto’, written by Tomás Henríquez and directed by Mario Monge, reconstructs the disappearance of José Vergara. Vergara, a young man with schizophrenia, was irregularly detained and abandoned in the desert by four police officers in Alto Hospicio in September 2015.
The case remains unresolved and is currently in the final stages of resolution before the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR). The play utilizes judicial statements, live cameras, and projections to present the conflicting testimonies and fragments of evidence surrounding the incident, aiming to reflect the complexity of seeking truth in a case where accounts vary significantly.
