Theater productions debut in Manaus and João Pessoa
The Brazilian theater scene features two distinct upcoming productions in Manaus and João Pessoa.
In Manaus, the company Ateliê 23 is premiering ‘Bar Patrícia - O Show’ at the Teatro Amazonas. The musical performance draws inspiration from the songs of the show ‘Sebastião’ and serves as an homage to a historic LGBTQIA+ meeting point in the city during the 1970s. The production features actors, singers, drag performers, dancers, a choir, and a live band, aiming to explore themes of memory and identity.
In João Pessoa, the Trupe de Humor da Paraíba will present ‘Escolinha Profana – A Prova Final’ at the Teatro Paulo Pontes on September 12 and 13. This comedy uses Northeastern Brazilian cultural elements to satirize the Brazilian education system, addressing topics such as teacher-student dynamics and authority. The play also incorporates historical references to the military dictatorship to create a dialogue between past and present educational practices.
