Theater productions highlighted in Madeira and Salvador

In Madeira, Portugal, the book ‘Trilogia da Morte’ by Filipe Gouveia is being presented at the Teatro Municipal Baltazar Dias. Part of the Baltazar Dias Collection, the work compiles three dramatic plays produced by the AGON company between 2022 and 2026. Inspired by the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, the trilogy includes ‘Livrai-nos da Peste!’, which parallels the 1521 bubonic plague with the COVID-19 pandemic; ‘Livrai-nos da Guerra!’, which connects the arrival of Gibraltarian refugees in 1940 to Ukrainian refugees in 2023; and ‘Livrai-nos da Fome!’, which uses satire to draw parallels between the period preceding the 1974 revolution and contemporary times.

In Salvador, Brazil, the production ‘Lady Macbeth – Página 1606 do Livro’ is returning to the stage at Teatro Faresi. Directed and adapted by Fábio Tavares, this contemporary reimagining of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth focuses on the complexity of Lady Macbeth. Rather than portraying her solely as an ambitious instigator, the production explores her humanity, including her intelligence, fear, and fragility.
