Theater productions tour Mato Grosso do Sul
Various theatrical productions are touring regions in Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, focusing on indigenous cosmovisions and historical memory.
The play ‘Jurema e a Criação do Mundo’, conceived by Sorrayla Acosta Parra, is concluding its tour with final performances in the Guaicurus Settlement in Bonito on September 3 and the Tomázia indigenous community in Porto Murtinho on September 4. The production uses clowning, music, and circus arts to bridge the Guarani Mbya and Desana worldviews with scientific concepts like the Big Bang.
Additionally, the Bahia-based Cia de Teatro Gente will bring the play ‘1798 – Lucas Dantas: Um Herói de Búzios’ to Dourados between September 7 and 10, 2026. Part of the Academic Week of Performing Arts at the Federal University of Grande Dourados (UFGD), the play explores the life of Lucas Dantas, a figure associated with the late 18th-century Búzios Revolt in Salvador. The program includes theatrical performances and educational workshops.
