Theatre productions bring reimagined classics to Australian stages

Theatrical productions are arriving in various Australian venues, featuring reimagined classics. In Wollongong, the production ‘Pride and Prejudice (Sort Of)’ is set to perform. This Olivier Award-winning reimagining of Jane Austen’s classic uses five actors to portray 20 different characters, incorporating pop hits and karaoke to tell the story through the perspective of the servants.

Meanwhile, at the Old Fitzroy Theatre in Woolloomooloo, Emma Wright’s play ‘Harlots’ is being staged. The production explores the lives of silenced women from Shakespearean dramas, such as Hermione and Paulina from ‘The Winter’s Tale’, providing a resolution to their narrative absences and allowing them to forge new identities outside of patriarchal structures.
