Theatrical adaptations of Homer’s Odyssey scheduled in Italy

Various theatrical productions based on Homer’s Odyssey are scheduled to take place in Italy.

At the Villa Romana di Casignana, the production ‘Odissea – Il mio nome è nessuno’, directed by Francesco Polizzi and adapted by Benedetta Nicoletti and Polizzi, will be performed as part of the XXXII Seasonal Theater of Locride. Produced by Castalia, the show utilizes music by Franco Accascina and features a group of singer-bards to interpret the epic journey through poetic narration, music, and dramatized flashbacks.

In Venticano, as part of the Velia Teatro Festival 2026, Gianluigi Tosto will perform ‘Omero | Odissea’ at the Arena Teatro Comunale. Tosto, described as a modern-day bard, offers a solo vocal performance that combines rhythmic verse with athletic gesture and archaic musical instruments. The performance aims to revive the ancient oral tradition, focusing on the power of spoken word and imagination over visual stimuli.
