Theatrical works in Mexico and Chile explore themes of aging

In Mexico, veteran actresses Ofelia Medina and Isaura Espinoza performed the play ‘Cómo envejecer con gracia’ (How to Age with Grace) at the Teatro de la Reforma in Veracruz. Written by Mayo Simon and directed by Laura Jerkov, the production explores themes of aging, friendship, and the passage of time through a blend of humor and emotion.

Simultaneously, in Loncoche, Chile, the theatrical project ‘Amalia, cuerpo en vuelo’ is utilizing the lived experiences of elderly women to challenge ageism. Residents of the ELEAM Los Copihues facility and local women have participated in workshops involving body expression and conversation to contribute to the play's dramaturgy. This initiative, funded by the Ministry of Cultures, Arts, and Heritage, aims to highlight the autonomy and life projects of the elderly through a combination of theater and puppetry.
