Thefts and vandalism reported in Italian cemeteries

In Olgiate Comasco, a thief broke a car window in the cemetery parking lot during the afternoon, stealing a wallet containing 200 euros and a mobile phone. The incident has raised questions regarding the effectiveness of existing warning signs and the sufficiency of local patrols.

In the Freto district of Modena, a different type of theft occurred where brass bolts supporting family tombstone niches were stolen. This act of vandalism posed a structural risk, as the removal of the bolts threatened to make the heavy tombstones unstable. Local reports suggest that thefts of metal materials, such as screws and gutters, are becoming increasingly frequent in unsupervised cemetery grounds.
