Thefts reported at fire station and residential storage in the Netherlands

Police in the Netherlands are investigating a series of thefts targeting residential storage units and emergency services. In Waalwijk, residents of a complex at Frederik Hendrikhof discovered on August 15 that multiple storage units had been broken into. Thieves stole various items, including electric bicycles, during the night of August 14.

In a separate incident in Sint-Michielsgestel, thieves targeted a fire station on a Monday night. The perpetrators broke garage windows with paving stones to gain entry and stole expensive rescue equipment from a fire engine. This incident is part of a reported surge in thefts at fire stations across the region, including previous hits in Ravenstein, Geffen, and Haps.

Authorities noted that stolen rescue tools, such as hydraulic spreaders, are frequently repurposed by criminals to facilitate other crimes, including jewelry store robberies. The National Police have stated they are prioritizing these investigations to curb the increase in thefts of essential emergency equipment.
