Thefts reported at religious sites in Argentina and Colombia

Separate incidents of theft and vandalism have been reported at religious institutions in Argentina and Colombia.

In Villa Elvira, Argentina, criminals broke into a church and a residence located at the same site. The perpetrators forced open window grates and damaged doors to access the kitchen and bathrooms. Stolen items included chrome faucets, two small electric water heaters, and various kitchenware such as plates and cutlery. Local residents have reportedly pointed to a man in the area who may be hiding the stolen goods, though no arrests have been made.

In El Pital, Colombia, a man was apprehended after breaking into the Capilla Nuestra Señora del Amparo. The suspect stole one million pesos in cash, religious items, and consumed three bottles of consecrated wine. Bishop Jaime Alberto Cabrera Arcos expressed that the act caused “deep spiritual pain to the community.” Following a report by the priest, police conducted a search and successfully located the suspect.
