Themar station undergoes 6.2 million euro modernization

The Themar railway station in southern Thuringia has been officially inaugurated following a comprehensive modernization project. Deutsche Bahn invested a total of 6.2 million euros into the renewal of the transport hub, with the Free State of Thuringia contributing 658,000 euros.

The construction phase, which began in June 2025 and concluded in September 2026, included the creation of a new passenger tunnel with staircases and enclosures, as well as fully renovated platforms. Additional upgrades feature modernized lighting, new weather shelters, seating areas, and digital passenger information displays. The project also involved redesigning station pathways through the relocation of the pedestrian underpass and the main platform, alongside improved bicycle parking facilities.

Thuringia's Infrastructure Minister, Steffen Schütz, emphasized the station's importance as a vital connection for commuters, visitors, and the local economy, describing it as “Themar’s gateway to the world.” The station provides essential rail links toward Meiningen, Eisenach, Eisfeld, and Sonneberg.
