Thenmavin Kombathu to return to theaters in 4K Dolby Atmos

The 1994 Malayalam cinema classic ‘Thenmavin Kombathu’ is scheduled for a theatrical re-release this September in a restored 4K Dolby Atmos version. Directed by Priyadarshan and starring Mohanlal and Shobana, the film is being brought back to the big screen following an extensive restoration process led by Matinee Now.

The restoration involved scanning the original 35mm print into 4K to enhance visual clarity while preserving the film’s original character. Additionally, the soundscape has been upgraded with a Dolby Atmos mix to recreate the theatrical experience.

The film features an ensemble cast including Nedumudi Venu, Pappu, Sreenivasan, Sukumari, Kaviyoor Ponnamma, and KPAC Lalitha. The restoration project is described as a year-long effort to honor the original spirit of the comedy-romance and provide audiences a chance to see the performances of the cast members, some of whom are no longer living.
