Theo Ellington wins San Francisco District 10 supervisor race

Theo Ellington has secured a decisive victory in the race for San Francisco’s District 10 supervisor seat. Early election results indicated that Ellington received approximately 68.6 percent of the vote, defeating nine opponents in a ranked-choice election.

Ellington, a lobbyist and director of the Bayview’s Ruth Williams Opera House, received significant backing from the city’s moderate establishment. His endorsements included Mayor Daniel Lurie, the San Francisco Democratic Party, and former Mayor London Breed. His campaign was also notable for a record-setting $540,000 contribution to a pro-Ellington PAC from cryptocurrency billionaire Chris Larsen, which prompted an “anti-billionaire” campaign from rivals.

His primary challenger, Dion-Jay Brookter, received 31.4 percent of the vote. Other candidates included J. R. Eppler, who was eliminated in the final round. Ellington’s win flips a seat currently held by outgoing progressive Supervisor Shamann Walton, marking a potential shift in the political alignment of the Board of Supervisors for the district, which encompasses areas from Potrero Hill and Dogpatch through Bayview to Sunnydale and Visitacion Valley.
