Theo Janssen reveals major salary cut for Vitesse return

Former footballer Theo Janssen has revealed that he accepted a significant pay cut to facilitate his 2011 move from Ajax to Vitesse. Janssen stated that his salary at Vitesse was only one-third of what he earned at Ajax.

According to Janssen, the primary motivation for leaving Amsterdam was the grueling daily commute to Arnhem. Roadworks on the A12 and A2 motorways frequently extended his travel time to three hours. To ensure the transfer occurred, Janssen took the initiative to contact Vitesse management directly, despite knowing the club had a more limited budget than Ajax.
