Theo Müller Group to close two German plants, affecting 320 jobs
The Theo Müller Group has announced the closure of two major production facilities in Germany, a move expected to affect approximately 320 employees.
In Leppersdorf, Saxony, the subsidiary Sachsenmilch will cease production of sliced and cut cheeses by December 31. The company cited unfavorable economic conditions and a lack of long-term profitability in the cheese division as primary reasons for the decision. Approximately 160 workers in production, packaging, and administration are affected, though other operations such as mozzarella and sour milk cheese production will continue.
In Rogätz, Saxony-Anhalt, the Homann plant, which produces sauces and deli products, is scheduled to close by the end of September 2027. This closure will also impact roughly 160 employees. The company attributed this decision to shifting consumer preferences, noting that demand for sauces in traditional glass jars has declined in favor of alternative packaging like squeeze bottles and tubes. This shift has led to lower capacity utilization and higher unit costs, making the necessary investments in production lines no longer viable.
