Theodoros Skylakakis defends Greece's 2027 budget draft
Theodoros Skylakakis, the general rapporteur for New Democracy, has called for the approval of the 2027 budget draft, stating that public finances are in order and national debt is decreasing. He emphasized that the country has regained hard-won credibility.
Skylakakis identified the post-Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) era as a major challenge, noting the need to continue mobilizing private capital through state resources. He stressed that productivity-increasing reforms are essential to generate new economic growth and warned that any slowdown in these reforms, particularly ahead of elections, could damage economic reliability.
Regarding global stability, Skylakakis warned of a potential ‘perfect storm’ in 2027. He cited several geopolitical and economic risks, including political instability in Europe, fiscal crises in France, potential aggression from Russia, legislative conflicts in the United States, and the possibility of an artificial intelligence market bubble bursting.
