Theoní Koufonikolákou alleges record corruption in Greece

Theoní Koufonikolákou has issued a sharp critique of the Greek government, alleging a period of record corruption and the failure of oversight mechanisms. During a media appearance, she cited several high-profile scandals, including the Tempi train tragedy, wiretapping allegations, issues within the Hellenic Agricultural Organization (OPEKEPE), and the misuse of public funds through direct assignments.

Koufonikolákou specifically questioned how networks of tax evasion and irregularities could persist for years without being detected by state control mechanisms. She also addressed a scandal within the basketball federation, suggesting that legislative frameworks were manipulated to favor specific individuals.

Furthermore, she demanded transparency regarding government appointments and subsidies, specifically mentioning the status of a director in the Prime Minister’s office and subsidies involving a New Democracy MP. She emphasized that the progress of judicial investigations should be viewed as an achievement of an independent judiciary rather than a success of the current administration.
