Home maintenance tips for winter insulation and humidity control
As colder weather approaches, experts are highlighting essential home maintenance steps to improve energy efficiency and prevent moisture issues. Proper thermal insulation is a key factor in maintaining stable indoor temperatures across all seasons. Meltem Bayraktar San, Technical Manager at Baumit Türkiye, notes that high-quality insulation reduces heat loss in winter and prevents high energy bills by limiting heat transfer between indoor and outdoor environments.
However, effective insulation requires attention to detail to avoid thermal bridges. Common weak points include window frames, sills, roof connections, and the transition between facades and foundations. Even with thick insulation, poorly sealed areas around windows or corners can lead to cold spots.
Additionally, seasonal changes increase the risk of indoor humidity and condensation. Moisture often accumulates in cold corners, behind furniture, or near kitchen appliances. To prevent mold growth, it is recommended to ensure proper ventilation, maintain air circulation, and use kitchen hoods effectively. Homeowners are also advised to check for air leaks around doors and windows and to ensure that furniture does not obstruct radiator heat flow.
