Thermalism in Gers: Lectoure and Barbotan offer distinct wellness experiences

The Gers region in France features two distinct thermalism destinations that offer different experiences for visitors.

Lectoure offers a more intimate setting, with its thermal spring located in an 18th-century private mansion. Discovered in 1979, the sodium chloride water is managed by the Valvital group. Beyond wellness, Lectoure emphasizes its historical heritage as a fortified town and a stop on the Camino de Santiago, integrating local culture such as organic woad cultivation, foie gras, and Armagnac into the visitor experience.

In contrast, Barbotan provides a larger-scale, year-round multi-specialist station. Owned by the Chaîne Thermale du Soleil since 1958, the site has roots dating back to 1843 and ancient times. While both locations focus on rheumatology, they differ significantly in scale, history, and the surrounding cultural offerings.
