Thermo Fisher employees protest job cuts in Langenselbold

Approximately 300 employees of the medical technology manufacturer Thermo Fisher held a demonstration in Langenselbold to protest planned job cuts. The company intends to eliminate roughly 60 positions out of a total workforce of 600, affecting both production and administration. This move follows a gradual reduction of over 100 jobs in recent years.

Local political leaders, including Main-Kinzig-Kreis District Administrator Thorsten Stolz and First District Commissioner Andreas Hofmann, joined the protesters to express solidarity. Stolz criticized the cuts, stating that the company has seen increases in revenue, profits, and shareholder dividends, characterizing the job losses as occurring “without necessity.”

The works council had attempted to facilitate a dialogue between company management and local politicians, but management reportedly declined the meeting. While the company initially sought to deny political representatives access to the site, they eventually permitted the demonstration in front of the factory gates.
