Thermo Fisher Scientific facility visited by Austrian ministers

Austrian Economic Minister Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer and Science Minister Eva-Maria Holzleitner visited the Thermo Fisher Scientific facility in Linz to discuss the role of life sciences in the national economy. The visit focused on strengthening innovation and production to ensure supply security and translate scientific research into industrial value creation.

Life sciences and biotechnology are among the nine key technologies identified in the federal government's industrial strategy. Austria currently hosts approximately 1,200 life sciences companies. The pharmaceutical sector alone employs around 43,000 people, with revenues increasing by 25 percent to nearly 29 billion euros between 2020 and 2023.

The Thermo Fisher Scientific site in Linz serves as a major hub for the development and production of pharmaceutical active ingredients, specifically in the area of small molecules. The facility employs roughly 800 people and is the largest production site within the company's global small-molecule network.
