Thermopylae Aerospace introduces SPART drone interceptor for U.S. Air Force evaluation

Thermopylae Aerospace, a company founded by Ukrainian engineer Yehor Balytskyi, has introduced SPART, a compact, foldable drone interception system, for evaluation by the U.S. Air Force. Designed to counter Class 2 threats, such as Shahed-style attack drones, the SPART system utilizes a foldable quadcopter design capable of reaching speeds up to 350 km/h.

The system employs thermal imaging guidance for target tracking and features a partially reusable design that allows the interceptor to return if it fails to hit its target. It is intended to be compatible with various platforms, including other drones, ground stations, naval vessels, and manned vehicles.

Balytskyi stated that SPART aims to reduce Western reliance on expensive engines and components, facilitating lower-cost mass production. The system recently participated in the U.S. Air Force ‘Game of Drones 26-2’ event at Edwards Air Force Base, part of the Drone Dominance initiative. The current evaluation process is expected to last over four months, with the goal of securing a procurement contract with the Pentagon.
