Thermos recalls 8.2 million containers in US over dangerous caps

Thermos, the American maker of food‑storage bottles and jars, announced a recall of about 8.2 million products sold between 2008 and 2024. The recall targets the Stainless King and Sportsman Food & Beverage lines, which lack a pressure‑release valve. A design flaw can cause the screw‑on cap to detach with force when the container is opened, turning the cap into a high‑velocity projectile.

The company has recorded 27 incidents involving the defective caps. Several users suffered facial injuries, and three consumers lost vision permanently after the caps struck their eyes. U.S. regulators have urged owners to stop using the affected containers immediately and to contact Thermos for a replacement or a safer cap. The recall is currently limited to the United States, although some units may have been purchased in Europe via online platforms.
