A flight traveling from Newcastle to Heraklion was forced to make an emergency landing at Thessaloniki’s Makedonia International Airport after a 42-year-old British passenger caused a major disturbance.

Authorities report the passenger was in a state of heavy intoxication and behaved aggressively toward both the cabin crew and fellow passengers. The individual reportedly refused to comply with instructions from the crew, prompting the captain to divert the aircraft to Thessaloniki at approximately 1:30 a.m. to ensure the safety of those on board.

Following the landing, airport police arrested the man. He faces charges under Greece’s Aviation Code, including dangerous interference with aircraft transport, disobeying the captain’s orders, and disturbing public order. A Thessaloniki court later convicted the man, imposing a three-month prison sentence with a three-year suspension.
