Thessaloniki and Bucharest mayors to sign tourism cooperation agreement

The mayors of Thessaloniki and Bucharest are preparing to sign a memorandum of cooperation to strengthen ties between the two cities. Thessaloniki Mayor Stelios Angeloudis met with Bucharest Mayor Ciprian Ciucu in Romania to discuss tourism, university cooperation, and improved connectivity.

During his visit, Angeloudis highlighted that Romania is already a significant market for Thessaloniki, accounting for 92,955 overnight stays in 2025. He expressed a desire to expand this tourism throughout the year and promote the city as a hub for business and innovation in South-Eastern Europe through the ‘Destination Thessaloniki’ initiative.

The formal agreement is expected to be signed in Thessaloniki during the spring, with Mayor Ciucu anticipated to visit the Greek city in March or April.
