Thessaloniki ATM bombing damages Kalamaría bank
In the early hours of Wednesday, 29 July 2026, a bomb exploded at a Piraeus Bank ATM located at the intersection of Themistokle Sofouli and Kapetan Goni in the Kalamaría district of Thessaloniki, Greece. The detonation destroyed the ATM and caused serious damage to the bank’s premises and nearby shops and vehicles. No injuries were reported.
Police discovered a second explosive device at the same location, which was safely neutralised by the Hellenic Police’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit (TEEM). Investigators are reviewing security‑camera footage, collecting forensic evidence, and searching for two unidentified suspects – reportedly riding a motorcycle – who placed the devices.
